MEGA TRIP 2024 Day 1
08:00 – 19:00
Pick which activity you are doing on day ONE of the mega trip. There are free tickets allocated for each activity based on the availability of leaders and gear to run each activity. Please only pick each activity once for the weekend. If you try to book four days of canyoning we will reallocate your tickets so other people get a chance. Canyon: Beginner friendly: An easy introduction to canyoning, we will be running 2 Groups. If your abseil skills are a little rusty this is your chance to still have awesome day out, as one group will be floating the Wollangambe, a trip full of spectacular views of bulies canyons, all while floating peacefully.  However, if you are looking for a little more, a group will also be heading to Serendipity for the day, a beginner friendly canyon with aa good mix of technical rock scrambling and chill wades. All technical gear and instruction will be provided, just bring comfortable clothes (NO COTTON!), shoes that you can hike and swim in (old running shoes or volleys work well), plenty of water, some lunch and snacks. Climb: Beginner friendly: A chill day top-roping at the Soft Parade in Mt York, the best crag in the mountains for complete beginners! This day is the best of the four days of climbing for those who are brand new to climbing real rock and want a nice easy intro. All technical gear and instruction will be provided, just bring comfortable clothes, plenty of water, and some lunch & snacks Hike: Intermediate and Beginner friendly: We will be running 2 groups. The intermediate group will be doing Wollangambe Crater, an action packed hike, full of off track navigation, bushbashing, and a little swimming. This is technically the most advanced hike of the trip, so prior hiking experience and a moderate level of fitness is required. The beginner group will be doing Dalpura canyon and jinki-ridge. This route combines breathtaking scenery, a narrow and spectacular canyon and some pristine swimming holes. Kayak: A cruisey day out exploring Lake Lyell. No experience needed and all the kayaking gear provided, just make sure you bring clothes that can get damp (NO COTTON), water, and some lunch in a waterproof container There's also the option to chill at camp! Any questions, flick me a message! -Captain Phil

Summer Canyoning 2024
Mount Wilson
22-03-2024 16:00 – 24-03-2024 19:00
Get ready for an adrenaline-filled, stunningly gorgeous weekend exploring the Blue Mountains' best canyons! This trip is shaping up to be awesome fun, but for that to happen, you MUST have abseiling experience before attending. BUT, don't fret if you don't have any! When you buy your ticket, just let us know in the relevant question and we'll make a groupchat where we can organize a practice session to show you the ropes (haha). Subject to work and uni commitments, the vague plan is to head off from the gearshed around 5pm, arriving at the campsite about 8:30pm, but carpooling and travel arrangements can be sorted closer to the time. We will be camping at Cathedral Reserve near Mount Wilson Friday and Saturday night before heading back to Newcastle on Sunday evening. Weather dependent, Saturday will be a day of rockhopping and abseiling down some of the best and most beautiful canyons the Blue Mountains has to offer. It will be a big day including swimming, several kilometers of hiking, and some steep terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness and confident swimming ability are both essential! Sunday will be a nice relaxed day of floating, jumping and sunbathing. Instead of taking ropes and harnesses, we'll take our lovely lilos down to the Wollangambe and spend the day drifting away in the sunshine.  All camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats etc.) can be hired from the gearstore, in addition to wetsuits, backpacks and drybags. The club will also provide helmets, harnesses and everything you need to stay safe in a canyon! We will be stopping for dinner on the road Friday night on the way to the Blueys, and a delicious, hearty Matthew Moss special will be provided Saturday night. You will be responsible for providing your own breakfast, lunch, and snacks for Saturday and Sunday (ideally things which are individually wrapped and/or you won't mind eating after they've gone soggy courtesy of a swim in a canyon!) Please keep in mind you will need to make it to the shed on the Tuesday or Wednesday night prior to this trip to organise a wetsuit, and get on those tickets fast! It's first in best dressed and they will go quick! Get keen for an incredible weekend!   - Chris

Canyon Upskilling
Cranky Corner Road North
09:00 – 16:00
Off the back of the ACA training weekend recently let's practice some canyon skills.  This is intended for those who can already set up and manage canyon anchors, we'll run another trip in future for those who are looking to move forward from a more basic level.   The day will be out at Cranky Corner Sunday the 3rd. Text me if you need gear, we'll obviously be bringing various bits of club gear.   We'll try and go over both the skills and the situations that they are best used for. An indication of some skills is: - Setting handlines - Creating new anchors (selecting natural anchors, meat anchors, considerations of the line)  - Guided rappels, ziplining bags, ascending ropes and ziplines - Open vs closed system, bleeding the line - Passing a knot through a releasable anchor - Protecting your final abseiler (releasable abseils, rope bag management) - Ascending ropes   Captain Phil
