CANCELLED: Beginner Backcountry Skiing
Perisher Valley
09-09-2026 12:00 – 13-09-2026 18:00
You asked, we delivered!
We are running the first ever BEGINNER backcountry skiing trip!
If you have looked longingly at the intermediate multiday backcountry ski trips that have run the past couple of years, but don't quite meet that minimum requirement of having skied at an intermediate level before, this is the trip for you!
To participate in this trip, you don't need any prior ski or snow experience, however, you will need a decent level of hiking fitness as we will be ski touring (aka hiking on skis) for 6-8 hours each day.
This trip is also a bit more costly than other trips we run in NUMC, due to the need to hire gear, lift tickets and fuel costs. Saying that, I have aimed to make it as cheap as possible by taking advantage of the cheap Thursday deal at Charlotte's pass, and opting to hike to earn our turns on Friday and Saturday! A trip to the snow for a couple days would usually cost most people $1-2K, so it is significantly cheaper than that!
To give you a rough idea of how much to budget here is a cost break down:
NUMC ticket price: $99
Includes:
- fuel
- National parks pass
- snow chain hire (if necessary)
- club gear hire (e.g. 4 season tents, winter sleeping bag, backpack, stove etc)
Rhythm Snowsports gear rental: $230 - $330 (depending on what you need, link here: https://www.rhythmsnowsports.com.au/pages/ski-and-snowboard-hire-prices).
Charlotte's pass resort day: $89
Includes:
- oversnow transport to and from perisher carpark
- lunch
- lift ticket for the day
Trip itinerary:
*more details to come after ticket purchase
Wednesday:
- drive down to Cooma
- pick up gear rental in Cooma
- camp at island bend (near perisher)
Thursday:
- ski at Charlotte's pass resort
Friday & Saturday:
- 6-8 hour day ski tours (route tbd)
Sunday:
- return gear to Rhythm in Cooma
- drive home to Newy
If you've read down this far and are stoked to come learn how to backcountry ski, grab a ticket and I'll see you on the other side!!
Ticket go live 8am Monday 24th August.
Let's shred! Yeww!!

10-09-2026 14:00 – 13-09-2026 20:00
Don’t have much on this weekend? Trying to ignore the week 4 assessment blues? Worry no more, do we have the last minute adventure for you!
This is a last minute event because the Beginner Backcountry Ski Trip got cancelled due to the lack of snow. Instead we have decided to go hiking and have the capacity for more people to join!!
Come along to intermediate hiking in Budawangs National Park, where we will visit the ‘castle’, a large rock formation as well as some insane caves and arches along the Budawang mountain range.
We will be camping at Wog Wog campground and Burrumbeet Brooks Campground along the way.
Basic hiking gear can be borrowed from the club, petrol and transport costs included in the cost of the ticket.
No prior overnight hiking experience is necessary, however, you must have day hiked before and have a reasonable level of fitness (to carry a heavy pack 13km in and out).
This will be a 3 night hiking trip with the following itinerary:
Thursday - Afternoon gear check and drive to camp (approx 4.5 hour drive)
Friday - 13.2 km hike to our second campsite
Saturday - 22.6 km out and back day hike to the ‘Castle’, no pack down and set up of camp required
Sunday - 13.2 km hike back to the cars and drive back to Newy.
Tickets go on sale 8am Tuesday 8/9/26 (tomorrow!) and close at middnight on Wednesday - so get in quick.
Any questions, shoot me a pm on messenger.

Beginner Caving - Timor Caves date TBA
Timor Caves
09-10-2026 17:00 – 10-10-2026 20:00
Date TBA
LET’S GO CAVING… AGAIN!!!
If you have been wanting to try caving or are experienced and want a weekend escape into the abyss, this is the trip for you. We have heaps of places for you guys to come out to Timor Caves, in Geawegal Country.
When: 9th October. The plan is to leave at 5PM on Friday, set up camp and hang around the campfire and then wake up bright and early Saturday to cave the day away before leaving for home in the arvo.
What: Now this is the fun part. First, we make our way to the caves which will be a short (or long) walk depending on how good you are at finding the damn things. Second, we put on our helmets, switch on our torches and dive into the underground world of rock, darkness and awesomeness. Once inside we walk, crawl, slide, and swear our way through the tunnels, trying to see what we can find and where we can get. It’s the ultimate in terms of exploration, the only thing stopping you from finding out what’s around the corner or in that tunnel is you. If you are claustrophobic, this is not the trip for you. We're aiming to get through 2-3 caves in the area over the day; all caves will be optional though and if you don’t feel like caving all day you're welcome to stay at camp.
Skills: This is a beginner trip so no prior experience of caving is required! However a reasonable level of fitness is needed as there will be 10-15 minute walks to most of the caves.
What to bring:
- 1 lunch and 1 breakfast, dinner will be provided on Friday night. Saturday's dinner will be on the road, but likely a pub feed with everyone together.
- Water for one day (at least one litre in a sturdy or plastic bottle, each car will have a 10 or 20 litre water container for refills, but you NEED a bottle)
- Clean clothes for the car ride home
- Camping gear (can be borrowed from the NUMC gear store or BYO)
- Torches (can be borrowed or BYO) ***Head torch ESSENTIAL***
- Overalls (optional)
- Spare batteries (Club torches take 4 AAA or 4 AA batteries, you MUST have a complete spare set.) ***ESSENTIAL***
- Backup torch (a $5 hand torch is fine) ***ESSENTIAL***
- Helmets (Gear store)
- Sturdy and/or cheap shoes. Following the “they gon’ get dirty” theme. (You get the point by now, there is dirt. Everywhere. Like, EVERYWHERE. And also water. Water and dirt make mud. You get the picture.)
- Wet wipes/baby wipes recommended
- Cheap gardening gloves (Also highly recommended)
- Face masks (these caves are DUSTY)
For additional information, feel free to flick me a message.
That's all the info you need, so once you've got your ticket, make sure to be at the gear store by 5PM AT THE LATEST on Friday the 2nd of October for our departure at 5:00PM. More details to be released once tickets are sold.
Camping gear can be borrowed prior, it's a first-in-first-served system.
That's all from us, get keen and sign up, Cant wait to see you all there!
Cheers,
- Captain Phil
