Welcome to the NUMC homepage. Here you can find details about our Pulse climbing nights, gear hire, memberships, and communications. We look forward to taking you on epic adventures!

The Newcastle University Mountaineering Club is a network of adventure-minded people who love nature, the outdoors, and adventure sports! NUMC facilitates this passion, providing climbing, caving, bushwalking and camping trips, as well as seasonal canyoning trips and social BBQ nights. We also provide a weekly climbing night for our members, which will this year take place at Pulse Climbing Gym in Warners Bay on Wednesday nights & Adamstown on Friday nights, and provide a networking opportunity with other passionate mountaineers.

Pulse Climbing Nights

Each Wednesday at Pulse Warners Bay, and Friday at Pulse Adamstown we run two separate climbing sessions, 5:30-7:30, then 7:30-9:30. Tickets are purchased directly through Pulse climbing and are $8. The link to purchase the Pulse tickets is included in your membership email. There are 20 tickets available for each session but get in fast, they sell out quickly!

Climbing + Calisthenics Workshop
The Forum Sports & Aquatic Centre
17:00 – 19:00
Hey everyone! We have this NEW and exciting event coming up! We are collaborating with Alex, principal Osteopath, at The Movement Improvement Clinic, to deliver a workshop where NUMC members can learn some calisthenics and exercises to improve climbing strength and agility. Alex is a movement-focused, neurodiverse Osteo who is keen to work with any person to help improve their health and wellbeing in a holistic, intentional approach. Before his injury, he dabbled in climbing, and currently runs some calisthenics classes, so this workshop is in great hands!! This workshop will run for 2 hours; 5pm-7pm on Wednesday 3rd June. If you are itching to do ANYTHING climbing related or need a healthy break from study, make sure you come along to this workshop! It will be held at The Forum, room TBA. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to flick me a message on Instagram or Facebook! - Laila Machin

Intermediate caving - Wee Jasper
Wee Jasper
19-06-2026 14:00 – 21-06-2026 20:00
LET’S GO CAVING!!!!!   This trip has places for some peeps to come to caving at the Wee Jasper caves, on Ngunnawal country, not far from Canberra. About a 6 hour drive...Yay!   When: 19th of June, leaving about 2pm on Friday, camping Friday and Saturday night and driving back to Newcastle Sunday evening. There are toilets and hot showers at camp (which will be much needed).   What: Now this is the fun part. First, we make our way to the caves which will be a short walk or drive to the cave entrance. Second, we put on our helmets, switch on our torches and dive into the underground world of rock, darkness and awesomeness. Once inside we walk, crawl, slide, and swear our way through the tunnels, trying to see what we can find and where we can get. It’s the ultimate in terms of exploration, the only thing stopping you finding out what’s around the corner or in that tunnel is you. If you are claustrophobic, this is not the trip for you. We're aiming to get 2 caves done, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. Skills: These caves are not for the faint of heart, they are vertical, there will be squeezing and there will be squirming! Preferably you have caved before, but as the minimum you MUST have abseiling AND ascending skills and be comfortable in tight spaces. If you are claustrophobic this is NOT the trip for you.    Any questions please feel free to send me an email or Facebook message.   That's all the info you need, so once you've got your ticket, make sure to be at the gear store by 1:30 pm AT THE LATEST on Friday the 19th of June for our departure at 2:00. More details to be sent out once tickets are sold.   Camping gear can be borrowed prior, it's a first-in-first-served system.    That's all from me, get keen, sign up, you know the drill.   Cheers, Chris B
