Intermediate Hiking Trip
Budawang National Park
08-09-2023 07:00 – 10-09-2023 17:00
Need a break from the big smoke? Want to feel like royalty atop a castle of stone? Then this stunning three day hike in the Budawangs might just be exactly what you need!!   We’ll be setting off from Newy on a Friday morning to arrive at Wog Wog campground around midday. We’ll pop our packs on and break the back of the hike by ditching the boots and crossing Wog Wog creek, before trekking over to the Burrumbeet caves, passing the Corang arch - a gravity defying structure with a beautiful view - on the way. We'll set up camp in the caves and explore the nearby Yurnga lookout.    The next morning we’ll pack up camp and fire up the engines for our ascent of the Castle, involving some exciting rock scrambles and exposed handline climbs. If heights aren’t your style then it’ll be best you don’t look down till we reach the top!! To get there, we'll keep powering our way along the Wog Wog track, passing stunning rock formations in the Monolith Valley. Once we've arrived at the base of the Castle, we'll pop our packs of and conquer that bad boy! Once we’ve soaked in the views and excitement of the epic summit we’ll head back towards Burrumbeet taking a shortcut via the valley between Mts Owen and Cole. We’ll push as far as possible before pitching tents under the stars to settle down for a well deserved camp feed and a good night's sleep.   The last day we’ll head back to Wog Wog campground, passing the same stunning features as before. At the river crossing, we'll have the chance to wash the 3 days of funk off us before embarking on the journey home, which will definitely involve a good pub feed.   While we welcome all company that comes our way, this hike is set to earn its spot as an intermediate trip. There will be various challenging sections including exposed rock scrambles and some tricky navigation through overgrown track sections. Prior hiking experience would be greatly beneficial as well as a solid fitness level. The ticket cost will cover transport to and from the hike as well as any gear hire from the shed. Food will be sorted out independently and while we’ll have some great suggestions for trail meals this will not be a part of the ticket cost. If you have any further questions feel free to shoot an email to caramelancholyy@gmail.com or message any of us on facebook! Cheers, Chris Brown, Cara O'Connor & Angus Whitnall

Intermediate Backcountry Skiing - 2023 Trip
Kosciuszko National Park
24-08-2023 07:00 – 27-08-2023 20:00
It’s snowing! Time to head out into the backcountry and shred some of that sweet sweet pow! Say goodbye to queues and frolic in the winter wonderland of Australia’s Alpine environment! For this one you need to have skiied before and consider yourself a comfortable downhill skier - if that's not you, check out one of our other trips! Due to wanting to take advantage of some better snow conditions, this trip will run during semester. Vague plan will be to drive down on the 24th of August, hire some gear in Cooma, and then camp in Jindabyne. The next morning we'll then head up into the snow for a couple of days, exact locations TBC depending on snow conditions and weather. Throughout the trip we'll explore, possibly move camp and check out some steeper terrain (again pending conditions), before heading back down the hill and home to Newcastle on the 27th. We will be sleeping in tents. Ticket price will cover fuel for everyone, national park fees, camping fees, lightweight dinner and breakfast for the nights we'll be in the backcountry.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me at peta.vancamp@uon.edu.au, or flick me a message on fb :)  Looking forward to skiing with you!

Beginner Caving - Timor Caves 4th-5th August
Timor Caves
04-08-2023 03:00 – 05-08-2023 21:00
LET’S GO CAVING… AGAIN!!! If you have been wanting to try caving or are experienced and want a weekend escape into the abyss, this is the trip for you. We have heaps of places for you guys to come out to Timor Caves, in Geawegal Country. When: 4th-5th of August. The plan is to leave at 3PM on Friday, set up camp and hang around the campfire and then wake up bright and early Saturday to cave the day away before leaving for home in the arvo.  What: Now this is the fun part. First, we make our way to the caves which will be a short (or long) walk depending on how good you are at finding the damn things. Second, we put on our helmets, switch on our torches and dive into the underground world of rock, darkness and awesomeness. Once inside we walk, crawl, slide, and swear our way through the tunnels, trying to see what we can find and where we can get. It’s the ultimate in terms of exploration, the only thing stopping you from finding out what’s around the corner or in that tunnel is you. If you are claustrophobic, this is not the trip for you. We're aiming to get through 2-3 caves in the area over the day; all caves will be optional though and if you don’t feel like caving all day you're welcome to stay at camp.  Skills: This is a beginner trip so no prior experience of caving is required! However a reasonable level of fitness is needed as there will be 10-15 minute walks to most of the caves. What to bring: - 1 lunch and 1 breakfast, dinner will. be provided on Friday night. Saturday's dinner will be on the road, but likely a pub feed with everyone together.  - Water for one day (at least one litre in a sturdy or plastic bottle, each car will have a 10 or 20 litre water container for refills, but you NEED a bottle) - Clean clothes for the car ride home - Camping gear (can be borrowed from the NUMC gear store or BYO) - Torches (can be borrowed or BYO) ***Head torch ESSENTIAL*** - Overalls (optional) - Spare batteries (Club torches take 4 AAA or 4 AA batteries, you MUST have a complete spare set.) ***ESSENTIAL*** - Backup torch (phones are not allowed in the cave, a $5 hand torch is fine) ***ESSENTIAL*** - Helmets (Gear store) - Sturdy and/or cheap shoes. Following the “they gon’ get dirty” theme. (You get the point by now, there is dirt. Everywhere. Like, EVERYWHERE. And also water. Water and dirt make mud. You get the picture.) - Wet wipes/baby wipes recommended - Cheap gardening gloves (Also highly recommended) - Face masks (these caves are DUSTY) For additional information, send either of us an email or Facebook message. That's all the info you need, so once you've got your ticket, make sure to be at the gear store by 2:30 PM AT THE LATEST on Friday the 4th of August for our departure at 3:00PM. More details to be released once tickets are sold. Camping gear can be borrowed prior, it's a first-in-first-served system.  That's all from us, get keen and sign up, Cant wait to see you all there! Cheers, Matt M and Chris B
