Hey NUMC, Listen up as climbing nights have had a makeover! Due to the significant rise of the costs of climbing nights, we have had to add a small charge for each ticket which will be $5. The good news is.... we are now offering two climbing nights and there are now more tickets available! Our Monday night climbing session will be at Pulse Adamstown and our Wednesday night climbing session will be at Warner's Bay! Both nights have two sessions from 5:30-7:30 & 7:30-9:30. Each month there will also be a free climbing night out at Maitland! Important housekeeping rules: - It's one ticket per person per day. You can buy tickets for both Adamstown and Warners bay.  - Please bring your student card, it's a lot for the staff to process all of you whilst tending to their usual customers so please make their lives easy and bring your student card for easy entry. - Make sure you have checked in at the front desk - Put your shoes and harnesses away it's not Pulse's job to clean up after all of us - NUMC gear is only for NUMC members and Pulse gear comes at a cost - Everyone must go through a safety briefing before climbing whether that be yourself or your friends. Trip Planning Evening Sem 2!
Newcastle University Mountaineering Club
18:00 – 20:00
Want to learn how to plan and run club trips? Have Ideas for a club trip that you'd love to make a reality? Need help finishing off a trip you've started planning? Learn everything you need and get a free dinner shouted by the club too! Our trips usually have a trip organiser (who plans where we go, what we do and who the instructors are) and a trip leader (who runs the trip on the day, makes sure no one dies and everyone gets instruction). Anyone can be a trip organiser, no prior knowledge needed and it's not even that hard!  If you're a competent climber, canyoner, caver, kayaker, hiker, mountain biker, orienteer or any other adventure sport afficionado feel free to come along and learn about what is involved as a trip leader too! Bring along a laptop for planning trips on, plenty of ideas and an empty stomach. We will provide pizza for attendees. The evening will start at 6 pm at the uni (the location will be determined soon).  Without volunteers our trips do not run, so if you have benefited from club trips in the past we'd love it if you considered passing the love along by organising/running a trip! If you wanna get involved in trip planning digitally then jump on our trip planning discord!! Join Here!!! See you there! - Matt and Kenz

16-07-2024 07:00 – 21-07-2024 09:00
Lets go shred some aussie pow! By heading backcountry to get away from those lift lines, the crowds and icy groomers. This trip is for people who consider yourself a comfortable downhill skier but no backcountry skiing experience is required. The vague plan is to leave newcastle with an alpine start on the 16th of July, and hire some gear in Cooma. Then depending on snow and weather conditions head straight into the backcountry for the first night or camp at Island Bend campground to go backcountry first thing in the morning. Depending of snow and weather conditions we either be backcountry skiing on the Main Range or Schlink Pass (possible out to Mt Jagungal). Throughout the trip we'll explore different terrain and scenery before heading back to the cars on the 21st and driving back to Newy. Ticket will include transportation from the gear shed, camping gear hire (tent, sleepingbag, pack ,...) and a lightweight dinner for all the nights in the backcountry. It doesn't include backcountry ski hire which will be done through Rhythm and will cost approx $200. Splitboards are awesome but if you want to come on this trip on splitboard there are higher requirements of skills to guarantee your enjoyment and everyone elses enjoyment. You must be able to snowboard black runs, must be able to confidently ski green runs and must be reasonably fit. Hire cost are approx $280  If you have any question DM Oliver Dowzer on messenger

Drive on home with some cranking tunes.  TICKET TYPES: If you have a car and can transport yourself and 3 others please consider buying a 'driver ticket' to help us get everyone there. Fuel is covered by the club and driving comes with DJ rights for the trip.  For those of you who do not have transport, please buy a Non-driver ticket and transport will be provided. Glenrock State Conservation Area

Howdy peeps! This one is for all you cave-dwellers and canyon swimmers out there who want to hone in or start learning about single rope techniqe (SRT)! SRT is our main method of accessing vertical caves, so this day is necessary for anyone who would like to explore some of our more advanced trips later in the year. We will be meeting with Chris Curtis who is part of the NSW cave rescue squad and the training and safety officer of the Sydney Speleological Society. He will be giving us a complete guide on SRT - equipment, skills, safety, what to buy and more. After this, you will get a chance to practice skills in an overhung environment just like you would caving.  For any canyoners, Chris has a vast knowledge of canyoning which he is more than happy to share. You will also get the chance to practice ascension. As mentioned previously, attendence on this trip or a similar training day will be mandatory for future intermediate and advanced trips so best get in now with the pro! More details will come, in the meantime get keen and get dirty at Timor!  - Chris (Brown)

Beginner Bikepacking 2024
Freemans campground
25-05-2024 08:00 – 26-05-2024 17:00
Love a sore bum and tired legs? Time to try bike packing! (think hiking, but on a bicycle) At dawn we ride! (alternatively 8 am at the gear shed...) This entry level trip will take us from the uni to Munmorah, on the border of the Awabakal and Darkingjung Nations, and back again, with an overnight stay at Freemans Campground, BYO mountain bike. We had hoped to have bikepacking bags sorted by now but instead will have a driver chauffeur all our camping kit to the campsite and will just carry day packs with lunch, etc. If you have your own bags that fit your bike you're welcome to ride with them on! This 50km trip (each way) follows the Fernleigh Track and quiet fire trails most of the way with only a few short sections on the road and a portion of mountain biking through Wallarah.  A reasonable level of fitness is needed, probably about equivalent to being able to do a 4-5 hour hike, and of course you have to be comfy riding a bike as we'll be clocking up a few hours of saddle time (at a gentle pace and with lots of stops). The section through Wallarah is about a blue level so you don't need to be crushing double black diamond jump lines. If you can comfortably do the 10km MTB loop at Glenrock you should be fine. You certainly don't need to be lycra clad but a few things you will need: Mountain bike (I would suggest you leave your huge DH rig at home, but anything with working brakes, gears and suspension will likely do. Remember you're the one who has to suffer on it!). Note: if you have mechanical issues because you brought a crappy kmart bike you bought ten years ago and never maintained we may leave you for dead. Please make sure your bike is up to scratch! Helmet  Comfy athletic wear to ride in (NO COTTON) Breakfast, snacks (we will stop for lunch at Swansea - supermarket and takeaway optons) and dinner with associated bowls, cutlery, etc to put it in (cook sets can be borrowed from the club) Something warm to wear at night Raincoat Water  Camping gear Optional - change of clothes, towel, swimming attire (there are showers at camp and a beach nearby)   Things the club can lend you (included in ticket price): Tent Sleeping bag Sleeping mat Headtorch Camp fees are included in your ticket price.   Any questions let me know! - Captain Phil
