NUMC Social Camp
Glenrock Scout Camp
26-02-2022 12:00 – 27-02-2022 13:00
Lets get the NUMC spirit thriving and jiving in Glenrock! We’ve rented out the scout campground for the night, it’ll be a fantastic way to meet new people, make new friends and plan some of your own epic trips with your crews.  The goal is to get as many members as (in)humanly possible. It will be a day and a night of more fun with competitive games of spotlight, social hangs and some good ol’ tunes, if you buy a ticket you can come and go as you please without camping/staying the entire time. We’ll have a fam dinner and breakfast, camping gear will be available to hire and lifts can be organised. We would love for this to become a yearly/semesterly event so the more friends you rally, the more fun we’ll have! And if you don’t have friends to rally, I can assure that you will after this event!  The site is in Glenrock National Park and literally right next to Burwood beach/leggys (for all you surfy waxheads) Important deets; There will be limited tents, mattresses and sleeping bags will be available to hire at the gear shed so get in quick!  We’ll be arriving at the site at 12pm to set up and aiming to leave by 12.30 pm on Sunday.  The scout campsite has a no alcohol ONSITE policy.  Dinner and breakfast is included (vegan/vegetarian/gluten free options available if you let us know!) Packing-list: - Warm clothes - Lunch and snacks for Saturday and Sunday  - Shoes  - Water  - Bowls/plates/utensils  - Mozzie spray and sunscreen  - Hat  - Swimmers (if you’re capable and brave) - Torch  If you have any questions about the trip please feel free to contact me (Hanna) on 0491120772, Hanna Marie on Facebook or at hannaferguson95@hotmail.com

Mount Wilson
11-02-2022 17:00 – 13-02-2022 19:00
***Postponed 1 week to 11th-13th February*** Get keen for an adrenalin-filled,stunningly gorgeous weekend exploring the Blue Mountains' best canyons! Subject to work and uni commitments, the vague plan is to head off from the gearshed around 5pm, arriving at the campsite about 8:30, but carpooling and travel arrangements can be sorted closer to the time. We will be camping at Cathedral Reserve near Mount Wilson Friday and Saturday night before heading back to Newcastle on Sunday evening. Weather dependent, Saturday will be a day of rockhopping and abseiling down some of the best and most beautiful canyons the Blue Mountains has to offer, including Grand, Serendipity, and Waterdragon. It will be a big day including swimming, several kilometers of hiking, and some steep terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness and confident swimming ability are both essential! Sunday will be similar, where we roll out of our tents to go canyoning again before heading back to Newy. All camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats etc.) can be hired from the gearstore, in addition to wetsuits, backpacks and drybags. The club will also provide helmets, harnesses and everything you need to stay safe in a canyon! We will be stopping for dinner on the road Friday night on the way to the Bluies, and a delicious, hearty club meal will be provided Saturday night. You will be responsible for providing your own breakfast, lunch, and snacks for Saturday and Sunday (ideally things which are individually wrapped and/or you won't mind eating after they've gone soggy courtesy of a swim in a canyon!) Please keep in mind a training night may be required prior to this trip, and get on those tickets fast! It's first in best dressed and they will go quick! Get keen for an incredible weekend! If you have any questions feel free to direct them here :) David.Schmidt@uon.edu.au and/or Rebecca.Gibson10@uon.edu.au

Tired of uni already or just need to stretch your legs? A weekend lead climbing trip to the Blue Mountains is just what the Doctor ordered! The purpose of this trip is to allow NUMC members with lead climbing experience to learn, hone their skills and push themselves and their climbing further than ever before in a new environment. What to bring! Clothes for three days! (Nights in the Blueys are cold and days can be brutally hot) Sun protection! (Self explanatory but sunscreen is very necessary) Water! (The more the better, 10l-20l are handy and we can fill 'em up en route and day to day to save weight in cars and bags) Food! To keep the trip cost down please prepare yourself for three days without the comfort of a fridge or UberEats. Don't underestimate how hungry you might be after three days of climbing! Camping gear! (NUMC will provide all camping and cooking gear but to avoid overcrowding small campsites please make sleeping arrangements with other members wherever possible - a fb or whatsapp group will be created with members to discuss this closer to the date. My contact details are at the bottom of the page if there are any issues at all :) Climbing gear! (Please bring the climbing gear you are confident and comfortable in though NUMC will supply the basics and additional if requested) Good shoes! (Many area will require a hike to reach so nice comfy walking boots are recommended) (This is not a beginner trip and will require solid lead climbing AND LEAD BELAYING experience. If you are unsure of your ability please contact me and we can have a discussion to see how much of a monkey you really are!) Please be at the gear store, located near the cul-de-sac around the back of the Forum gym ("Newcastle University Mountaineering Club" on Google maps) @ 4:45pm with the aim to leave just after 5pm! NUMC can supply biners, slings, harnesses, ropes, etc but please feel free to bring your own gear if you would rather. We will require a detailed list of what gear you are bringing so nothing gets misplaced or absorbed into the gear shed! If you would like to reduce the carbon footprint of driving to/from the trip check out our carbon offset initiative! http://tdy.cl/se/28jhiHY We will have hand sanitiser available all days and we ask that you all check https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates to ensure you have not been to any of the hot spots. More info around COVID safety will be emailed to you before the trip. Please do not attend if: - you have been overseas or at any of the hot spots in the last 14 days - you are feeling unwell (any illness, not just flu-like symptoms) - you are awaiting a COVID-19 test result - you have had a positive COVID-19 result in the last 14 days If you have any conditions that might impact your ability to participate, or if you have any questions you can contact me via Facebook messenger, ph: 0431757089 or email: ptin2565@aucklanduni.ac.nz Phillip

Golden Ticket
18-01-2022 10:00 – 01-02-2023 12:00
The golden ticket is a reward system for those who have helped the club in a big way throughout the year with things like catering for trips or attending gear shed audits. If you've done your part to earn a golden ticket the exec team will allocate one for you, please do not try and get a ticket that isn't yours! When trips go on sale we will have a presale that is a small portion of the total ticket numbers. These presale tickets for events are open to anyone who has a golden ticket. Once you've bought one of those presale tickets that's your golden ticket used up (although you can always earn more by helping out again). We're trialling this idea for the first time this year so bear with us if there are teething troubles!
