08:00 – 17:00
Hey, hey, hey, keen canyoners! Never canyoned before? Keen to dip your toes in and get a feel for this awesome adventure sport? Looking to learn some skills and gain experience before jumping into a whole weekend of canyoning? Want to meet awesome people, have a crack at something new, and have a whole lotta fun while you're at it? Then boy do we have the trip for you. This is a super low pressure and fun environment for those who haven't abseiled or canyoned before and want to give it a go. So what does it involve? We will meet at the gear shed (on the Callaghan campus) to get equipped with everything you need to stay safe in a canyon (helmets, harnesses and as well as dry(ish) bags and hiking packs) and then carpool out to Cranky Corner, Wonnarua Nation (Hunter Valley) for what is a very short and sweet dry-ish canyon. From there it will be a fun day of exploring, making friends, and learning the basics of canyoning. Expect to be immersed in the stunning bush, clambering over rocks and splashing in creeks. Depending on the weather this will either be a wet to the ankles or a wet to the waist kind of trip, with one optional abseil right down the middle of a waterfall and for those feeling brave, a cliff jump (if water levels are suitable). While the walk is not long a reasonable level of fitness is required and you must be able to swim to attend this trip. All you'll need to bring is food and water for the day, clothing to get wet in (NO COTTON), appropriate footwear that will be grippy on wet rocks but won't fall off your feet, and dry clothes for the car ride home. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to your friendly trip leaders! Rebecca Gibson rebecca.gibson10@uon.edu.au Francesca Orchard-Hall f.orchardhall@gmail.com

NUMC Social Camp 2023
Glenrock Scout Camp
18-02-2023 12:00 – 19-02-2023 13:00
Lets get the NUMC spirit thriving and jiving in Glenrock! We’ve rented out the scout campground for the night, it’ll be a fantastic way to meet new people, make new friends and plan some of your own epic trips with your crews.  The goal is to get as many members as (in)humanly possible. It will be a day and a night of more fun with competitive games of spotlight, social hangs and some good ol’ tunes, if you buy a ticket you can come and go as you please without camping/staying the entire time. We’ll have a fam dinner and breakfast, camping gear will be available to hire and lifts can be organised. We would love for this to become a yearly/semesterly event so the more friends you rally, the more fun we’ll have! And if you don’t have friends to rally, I can assure that you will after this event!  The site is in Glenrock National Park, on Awabakal country, and right next to Burwood beach/leggys (for all you surfy waxheads) Important deets; There will be limited tents, mattresses and sleeping bags will be available to hire at the gear shed so get in quick!  We’ll be arriving at the site at 12pm to set up and aiming to leave by 12.30 pm on Sunday.  The scout campsite has a no alcohol ONSITE policy.  Dinner and breakfast is included (vegan/vegetarian/gluten free options available if you let us know!) Packing-list: - Warm clothes - Lunch and snacks for Saturday and Sunday  - Shoes  - Water  - Bowls/plates/utensils  - Mozzie spray and sunscreen  - Hat  - Swimmers (if you’re capable and brave) - Torch  If you have any questions about the trip please feel free to contact me (Hanne) on 0435 561 498, Hanne Newman on Facebook or at hanne.newman@gmail.com

Warrumbungle National Park
25-11-2022 15:00 – 27-11-2022 21:00
NUMCies, time for an adventure! This trip is to the distant but coldly beautiful Warrumbungle National Park, way out west near Coonabarabran. If you can't pronounce either of these names or have no idea where they are, hit Google up for some more details.    This trip will depart Newcastle on Friday afternoon, and commence the ~5 hour drive to Camp Pincham, a camping ground in the National Park and stay there Friday night, then commence our major day hike on the Saturday. We'll be completing part of the Grand High Tops Trail loop with a stay on the spectacular Mt Exmouth (6-8 hours hike with a big climb at the end) before using Sunday to hike back and drive home.    The sky is so clear in these mountains that they built a space observatory at one edge of the park. So star watching will be a thing. This hike will not be for the faint hearted, expect a gruelling slog, particularly on the Saturday. If you have not done overnight hikes before this may not be the trip for you (if you're not sure of your suitability, send me a message), a high level of fitness will be needed.   Equipment: - Camping equipment (inc. tent, sleeping bag and mat, torches, stove etc.) - Hiking bag and appropriate footwear and clothing (i.e. hat, hiking boots) - Food and Water (2 days hiking and camping, there is no available food or water in the camp grounds) -  Warm clothes   Things to be aware of: - It may be very cold overnight. Expect around 0 degrees Celsius  Assuming the weather is fine, expect a maximum daytime temperature of 15-20 degrees.  Weather forecasts will be updated closer to the date.  Your ticket includes: - Camping fees  - Fuel - National Park pass Any questions, as always, email me at ptin265@aucklanduni.ac.nz, or contact me on Facebook.    - Captain Phil

Trip Planning Evening
Newcastle University Mountaineering Club
18:00 – 20:00
Want to learn how to plan and run club trips? Have Ideas for a club trip that you'd love to make a reality? Need help finishing off a trip you've started planning? Learn everything you need and get a free dinner shouted by the club too! Our trips usually have a trip organiser (who plans where we go, what we do and who the instructors are) and a trip leader (who runs the trip on the day, makes sure no one dies and everyone gets instruction). Anyone can be a trip organiser, no prior knowledge needed and it's not even that hard!  If you're a competent climber, canyoner, caver, kayaker, hiker, mountain biker, orienteer or any other adventure sport afficionado feel free to come along and learn about what is involved as a trip leader too! Bring along a laptop for planning trips on, plenty of ideas and an empty stomach. We will put on a BBQ for attendees. The evening will start from 6pm at the gear shed around the back of the forum https://goo.gl/maps/fTjRbWFBYzw45ZEn7 Without volunteers our trips do not run, so if you have benefited from club trips in the past we'd love it if you considered passing the love along by organising/running a trip!
