NUMC MEGA TRIP
21-04-2023 08:00 – 25-04-2023 19:00
Ready for the craziest club trip ever run?? Get ready for the first ever MEGA trip. Taking advantage of ANZAC day on the Tuesday (as well as your ability to dodge lectures/pull a sickie Monday) we have four days of adventures, with a rotating roster of different activities. We'll head down to Kangaroo Valley to camp and do canyoning, climbing, hiking, kayaking and snorkeling nearby. BUT WAIT, there's more... The ANU MC is also holding their equivalent trip at the same campsite at the same time (did someone say MEGA party?) We'll be camping at Bendeela on Tallowa Dam, allowing us to kayak straight from camp, with hikes nearby, canyoning at Macquarie Pass, climbing at Nowra and snorkeling in the bay! All the gear and instructors will be provided, fuel and transport are sorted, as well as food so your ticket gets you a lot! The plan: Friday night - drive from Newcastle to Bendeela Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday - we will divide everyone into groups that rotate through the activities Tuesday night - drive back to Newcastle What gear the club can lend you for the trip: All the technical gear (helmets, harnesses, kayaks, etc) Tent (may have to share pending availability), sleeping bag, sleeping mat What you need to bring: Clothes that can get wet for kayaking and snorkeling in - NO COTTON Warm clothes for at night Activewear for climbing and hiking in Watershoes with good grip for canyoning in (volleys are king but whatever choice you make must stay on your feet in the water, be comfy to walk in for several hours and must have a bit of grip. Old runners that you don't mind getting wet will work) Lunches (we're sorting breakfast and dinner) Cutlery, etc to eat with and off/out of Any questions, flick me a message! -Captain Phil

01-04-2023 08:00 – 02-04-2023 17:00
Love a sore bum and tired legs? Time to try bike packing! (think hiking, but on a bicycle) At dawn we ride! (alternatively 8 am at the gear shed...) This entry level trip will take us from the uni to Munmorah, on the border of the Awabakal and Darkingjung Nations, and back again, with an overnight stay at Freemans Campground, BYO mountain bike. We had hoped to have bikepacking bags sorted by now but instead will have a driver chauffeur all our camping kit to the campsite and will just carry day packs with lunch, etc. If you have your own bags that fit your bike you're welcome to ride with them on! This 50km trip (each way) follows the Fernleigh Track and quiet fire trails most of the way with only a few short sections on the road and a portion of mountain biking through Wallarah.  A reasonable level of fitness is needed, probably about equivalent to being able to do a 4-5 hour hike, and of course you have to be comfy riding a bike as we'll be clocking up a few hours of saddle time (at a gentle pace and with lots of stops). The section through Wallarah is about a blue level so you don't need to be crushing double black diamond jump lines. If you can comfortably do the 10km MTB loop at Glenrock you should be fine. You certainly don't need to be lycra clad but a few things you will need: Mountain bike (I would suggest you leave your huge DH rig at home, but anything with working brakes, gears and suspension will likely do. Remember you're the one who has to suffer on it!) Helmet  Comfy athletic wear to ride in (NO COTTON) Breakfast, snacks (we will stop for lunch at Swansea - supermarket and takeaway optons) and dinner with associated bowls, cutlery, etc to put it in (cook sets can be borrowed from the club) Something warm to wear at night Raincoat Water  Camping gear Optional - change of clothes, towel, swimming attire (there are showers at camp and a beach nearby)   Things the club can lend you (included in ticket price): Tent Sleeping bag Sleeping mat Headtorch Camp fees are included in your ticket price.   Any questions let me know! - Captain Phil

This the the perfect introductory trip to try outdoor climbing, learn some new skills, meet new people and have fun. No prior climbing experience is needed. The plan is to leave at the Gear shed (behind the Forum) Saturday morning and head down to Mount York on Darug Country. On Sunday we'll climb in some different areas and continue to build climbing skills, before heading back to Newcastle Sunday evening. What to bring: Food (Dinner will be provided Saturday night. You'll need to bring your own food for breakfast, lunches, and snacks. Don't underestimate how hungry you might get.) Water (Make sure you can carry enough water for the day, about 2L or so) Sun protection (This is very necessary as we'll be in the sun a lot) Clothes for two days (The Blue Mountains can get suprisingly cold) Camping gear (The club has camping gear available, however this is limited so please bring your own if you can) If you have any questions feel free to contact me via Facebook messenger or email: chriskirkman01@gmail.com

Mount Wilson
10-03-2023 17:00 – 12-03-2023 19:00
Get keen for an adrenalin-filled,stunningly gorgeous weekend exploring the Blue Mountains' best canyons! Subject to work and uni commitments, the vague plan is to head off from the gearshed around 5pm, arriving at the campsite about 8:30, but carpooling and travel arrangements can be sorted closer to the time. We will be camping at Cathedral Reserve near Mount Wilson Friday and Saturday night before heading back to Newcastle on Sunday evening. Weather dependent, Saturday will be a day of rockhopping and abseiling down some of the best and most beautiful canyons the Blue Mountains has to offer, including Grand, Serendipity, and Waterdragon. It will be a big day including swimming, several kilometers of hiking, and some steep terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness and confident swimming ability are both essential! Sunday will be similar, where we roll out of our tents to go canyoning again before heading back to Newy. All camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats etc.) can be hired from the gearstore, in addition to wetsuits, backpacks and drybags. The club will also provide helmets, harnesses and everything you need to stay safe in a canyon! We will be stopping for dinner on the road Friday night on the way to the Bluies, and a delicious, hearty club meal will be provided Saturday night. You will be responsible for providing your own breakfast, lunch, and snacks for Saturday and Sunday (ideally things which are individually wrapped and/or you won't mind eating after they've gone soggy courtesy of a swim in a canyon!) Please keep in mind you will need to make it to the shed on the Tuesday or Wednesday night prior to this trip to organise a wetsuit, and get on those tickets fast! It's first in best dressed and they will go quick! Get keen for an incredible weekend! If you have any questions feel free to direct them here :) David.Schmidt@outlook.com.au and/or Rebecca.Gibson10@uon.edu.au
