Zoom Yoga with Hamzah Wed 8th April
18:00 – 20:00
Fantastic yoga instructor Hamzah has agreed to run yoga sessions for NUMC, by buying a ticket you are helping support Hamzah as thanks for sharing his practice with us at  5:45pm tonight. This yoga is mainly tailored to functional strength for climbing (lots of core and shoulders) but is run in such a way that there are options for every level of strength, whether you are a beginner or a maestro this is the class for you - no experience required! As it is a donation tickets are $1 each, buy as many tickets as you would like according to how much you would like to donate (e.g. if you are happy to pay $10 buy 10 tickets).  We will email the link to the zoom 10 minutes before the session starts for everyone who has bought a ticket. I would recommend downloading zoom on your computer or phone early so you're not trying to do it last minute.

Sea Caving Adventure Turned Climbing Adventure 21/03/2020
Point Clare
08:00 – 17:00
***EDIT*** Looks like the swell is going to be a little too high for us to head for sea caving on Saturday, AND there is a reasonable chance that we'll get rained on.  So what we've decided to do is to still go on an adventure, but change the date to SATURDAY 21/3, meeting at the gear store at 8am. We won't be able to go caving, so instead we are going to go climbing down on the central coast. Pack everything you need for a day outdoors including sun-safe clothing, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, as well as all your own food and water for the day. No food or water will be provided.  We will provide all climbing equipment and training.  Following the current Covid-19 recommendations, if you are showing any symptoms at all or would prefer to reduce contact and not attend this event your ticket will be refunded asap. Please email me at cooperwalters217@gmail.com, or via facebook messenger to confirm that you have received this email and whether you will be attending or not, I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.  ***END EDIT*** SEA CAVING 2.0 As with every outdoor adventure, we're dependent on Mother Nature going easy on us, andthis particular adventure is less forgiving than others with regards to the weather. If you do get a ticket, make sure to keep a close eye on your emails approaching the date, we'll be in contact with weather updates and go/no go decisions. Assuming the weather is good, pack all your snacks, light hiking/walking stuff and water, and we pack all the other technical stuff and then we drive to caves beach and then we walk (carrying all our stuff) to a special little spot (in the photo above) and WE ABSEIL RIGHT INTO THE FREAKING WATER?! Don't worry if it's your first time abseiling, there are multiple abseils of varying difficulty, or no abseils at all if you'd prefer to do the big jump (13-15m) or the lil' jump (2-3m) into the water. Plenty of fun things to do for everyone, and plenty of exploring to be done too... What to bring: - anything you would take on a day hiking in the sun and at the beach, including but not limited to: - Water, snacks, sunscreen and sun-safe clothing, swimwear, SHOES YOU CAN SWIM IN (this is essential, no heavy boots. There are some sharp rocks and stuff) - We will supply lunch (included in trip cost) - We will supply technical equipment (included in trip cost) You must be reasonably fit (able to hike for half an hour carrying a light backpack) and swimming ability is definitely recommended.  Also bring a spare few dollars for the end of day pub break, an adventure essential. Any questions, feel free to email me at cooperwalters217@gmail.com.    GET KEEN ~Cooper

Newcastle University Mountaineering Club
09:00 – 17:00
Interested to try climbing (or try climbing outdoors)? Desperate to touch some real rocks? It's time for BEGINNER CLIMBING! This crag is tide dependent, so we'll aim to be walking in around 11 am, as the tide is on it's way out. Anna Bay and One Mile Beach are some really nice spots up near Nelson Bay, so the trip is worth it even before the climbing! We'll be climbing in a spot that overlooks the water, with a beautiful beach on our walk back from the crag to the cars, so pack your swimmers! There is about a kilometre (~0.6mi) walk between the car park and the crag, plus some scrambling around the headland, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. There is also a small downclimb to enter the crag, we'll have people on hand to assist, but you must have a reasonable level of confidence navigating short rock scrambles. To join this trip you have to A) be a member of the club, and B) have purchased a ticket for the event, which pays for fuel and some gear maintainence.  This trip caters to all skill levels, we supply all the technical equipment and the training you need! What To Bring: - Food and Water for a day -Hat and sunscreen -Sturdy shoes -Hair ties for anyone with long hair.   Transportation will be by way of a car pool, fuel for which is included in your ticket price. Please be at the gear store, located near the cul-de-sac around the back of the Forum gym ("Newcastle University Mountaineering Club" on Google maps) no later than 9:30 am to make sure everyone has the correct gear. Follow this link for a video from a previous beginner trip to Morna Point, it's worth it even just for the location https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oqExv0i6vo. These trips traditionally fill up very quickly, so get in ASAP to secure your spot! If you would like to reduce the carbon footprint of driving to/from the trip check out our carbon offset initiative! http://tdy.cl/se/28jhiHY Any questions feel free to contact me at ptin265@aucklanduni.ac.nz or 0431757089. - Phillip

NUMC AGM 2019
Dixon Park Beach
13:00 – 16:00
Alrighty my adrenaline junkies, time for the actual deets for our AGM! Our 2019 AGM will be held at Dixon Park, just behind Bar/Dixon Beach in Merewether, starting 1:30 pm on Sunday 10th of November. We will provide food and soft drinks, as well as banter and games, and some swims at the beach. There will be vegan and vego options available. The actual meeting will take about 15-20 minutes, the rest of the afternoon will be reserved for shenanigans We have received some interest for committee positions, but will continue to accept nominations until midnight Saturday 11th.. Any positions that remain vacant as of then will be open to nomination at the event. So grab your (free) ticket at from tidyHQ so we can get a firm idea of numbers and dietary requirements.  Reasons to nominate for committee: - Implement ideas you've had for the club - Learning admin and leadership skills - Open access to the gear store - In house training in outdoor adventure sports - Altruism - Looks great on your CV. Role descriptions and nomination forms are available on the club facebook page or by request. Any questions can be sent to myself or committee@numc.org.au. Our committees are run in a very fluid way, each member gets to learn every job, so your learning will not be confined to any single aspect of club administration. You will learn both the administrative skills of how to plan a trip, as well as the technical skills required to implement one. Nominate for any position you feel you would like to learn, or be good at. You may nominate for more than one. We'd love to have some new committee members, we have so much to teach and share so that this great club can thrive for years to come! Give it some thought, check it out. It is so worth it.   I hope to see you all there! Cooper Walters President NUMC cooperwalters217@gmail.com
